Tax Van

Mike received a Bachelor of Mathematics in 1992 from the University of Waterloo, with a focus on mathematics and accounting. His elective courses included business, economics, business law, constitutional law, and land planning. While at UW Mike participated in student politics, intramural sports, and employment on campus. Mike was #16 on the UW men’s field lacrosse team.

Mike received his designation as a Certified General Accountant in 1999. Mike was a Board member of the Durham Chapter from 1998 through 2007, serving as Chair during the 2005/06 year. As a member of the G50, Mike rallied local accountants in a political lobbying effort to achieve rights equal with other professional accounting designations in Ontario. In 2014 Mike received his designation as a Chartered Professional Accountant. Mike is a recipient of the CGA Ontario’s Chapter Distinguished Service Award.

Mike received his designation as a Certified Fraud Examiner in 2010. Mike’s training included computer forensics and his interest in this field led him to become principal owner of Durham Data Systems, an Oshawa based computer repair business with a specialty for guaranteed file recovery.

Mike has been preparing personal income tax returns since 1992 when he registered his computer and accounting business named MJ Consulting. In January 2011, Mike incorporated Tax Van Inc, a T1 tax preparation business with a focus on house calls. Tax Van Inc. annually purchases professional tax software to add efficiency to filing their client returns, and annually purchases liability insurance to assist in the unlikely event of an improperly prepared tax return.
